Mai Bui

Mai Bui is a Research Officer at the Human Security Report Project (HSRP). She is responsible for maintaining and analyzing datasets commissioned by the HSRP.

Mai has a master’s degree in economics from the University of British Columbia (UBC) and a bachelor’s degree in international relations and economics from UBC. For her master’s project, she undertook a quantitative examination of the incentives behind making charitable contributions. Mai is interested in the study of incentive structures and decision-making, particularly where they concern the decision to intervene in humanitarian crises. She is also interested in the study of political oppression and the relationship between poverty and conflict.

Prior to joining the HSRP, Mai worked as a Research Assistant to Dr. Ariel Burstein on the working paper, “Understanding Movements in Aggregate Product-Level Real Exchange Rates.”  She has volunteered with Oxfam UBC, UBC Responsible Consumption Week, and Ten Thousand Villages.
