Tara Cooper
Tara Cooper is the Data Research Manager at the Human Security Report Project (HSRP). She coordinates research activities in the data department in addition to contributing to the development and analysis of quantitative datasets on human security issues.
Tara holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and international relations (Hons) from the University of British Columbia (UBC). Her research interests include poverty and conflict in the developing world, with a particular focus on Africa. Her past involvement in Africa-focused organizations in the Lower Mainland included directing the student group UBC Africa Network and membership on the Advisory Board of the UBC Africa Awareness Initiative, as well as chairing the Kenya Peace and Solidarity Committee (KPSC). She was also a founding director of a local NGO called the Africa Peace Forum Society (APF). Recently, she helped direct a project under the APF called Eyes on Education, which raised money to help a school for the blind in Togo and culminated in a trip to Togo in the summer of 2009.
Tara is a co-author of two recent publications, “A New Peace in Africa” (with Andrew Mack): Conflict Trends Issue 4, 2008 (December); and “Estimating War Deaths: An Arena of Contestation” (with Michael Spagat, Andrew Mack, and Joakim Kreutz): Journal of Conflict Resolution 53: 934-950 (December 2009).
