Internship Opportunities

The Human Security Report Project offers three unpaid internship opportunities per year to hard-working and highly motivated individuals. Interns must be available to work full-time for a minimum of four months. Internships begin in September, January, and May.

Interns at the HSRP are usually enrolled in an accredited university program, or have recently completed a degree. They may be placed within our research, e-resources, or program/administrative section, depending on background and experience and needs of the organization.

Our interns are usually Canadian residents; however, non-residents are welcome to apply. Please note that non-Canadian residents must apply for a visa through Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) and that acceptance into our internship program does not guarantee a visa.

Those interested in the internship opportunities available with the HSRP should email the following documents to Shawna Korosi, , the HSRP’s Human Resources Manager:

  1. A cover letter explaining your interest in the HSRP, discussing your particular research interests, and stating when you would like to begin your internship;
  2. A current resume;
  3. Copies of university transcript(s); and
  4. A writing sample (no more than 1000 words).

We encourage interested individuals to apply early. Deadlines for the submission of completed application packages are as follows:

  • 15 October – to start in January
  • 15 February – to start in May
  • 15 June – to start in September

Applicants will be notified of the receipt of their application package. Applicants who are shortlisted will be contacted for an in person or telephone interview.

Other internship opportunities

The HSRP is interested in serving as a host organization for Security and Defence Forum (SDF) internships. The Department of National Defence's SDF Internship Program is intended to promote relevant work experience opportunities for recent MA graduates with a background in security and defence.

Proposals should demonstrate how the applicant’s research interests match both the priorities identified by the SDF and those of the HSRP.

SDF Internships are valued up to $35,000 over twelve months, pro-rated for shorter periods of time.

For full details about this program, including eligibility requirements, please visit the official SDF Internship Program website.

Those interested in applying for an SDF internship are invited to contact the HSRP with a brief proposal outlining their academic and work experience, research interests, and the desired area of research. Copies of transcript(s) and a writing sample should also be provided. Please note that applicants must obtain proof of agreement from the HSRP before submitting their application to the SDF coordinator.

Please send proposals to Shawna Korosi, .
